Another well-bred ‘Pride’ debuts

The newly Victorian settled training combination of Anthony Butt and Sonya Smith have had a sensational start the season.

They have produced 11 winners from just 17 starters.

The stable debuts another, 3yo Northern Pride – a descendant of outstanding mare New Arrival, which was the dam of the star pace It Is I.

She is the second foal out of the Hopetoun Park Stud-bred My Lady Posh to race, with her first BLACK SAHARA placed one. My Lady Posh also has an unraced 2yo colt by Blizthemcalder.

Dragonfly’s maternal grand dam is Maori’s Idol mare KANO IDOL, which was bred by Bill Bond.

Kano Idol has produced eight winners, including three-time group 1 winner My Missindependent (Classic Adam US) 23 wins, $266,000. She won the Breeders Crown 2yo final, and NSW and Victoria Trotters’ Oaks.

Onwatch was a $10,500 purchase at the 2019 Australian Pacing Gold yearling sale.

Charm Thee was unraced, but has been a big hit at stud.

Mirella is an unraced full sister to CAESAR AUGUSTUS, which won 24 races for $223,000 with a best winning mile rate of 1:54.5 – winning the group 3 NSW Sapling Stakes and group 3 Simpson Memorial 3yo to go with a third in the 2013 Victoria Derby.

Mirella is out of ARMIDA (Safely Kept US)  9 wins, which in turn is out of LA SPERANZA (What’s Next US) - a winner of 18 races for $155,000 and dam of five winners including IL TENORE (Ultimate Falcon US) 1:55.7, 24 wins, $170,000;  CORELLI (Perfect Art US) 1:55, 14 wins,

Northern Pride’s fourth maternal dam is the all-time great NEW ARRIVAL, a 1984 daughter of FAST KNIGHT US.

New Arrival won 22 times, but left her biggest mark at stud with nine winners.
