Australian-bred stallion Classic Garry had a major influence in the early days of the Breeders Crown.
He sired the two-year-old fillies’ final winner Lombo Adreamin in the inaugural series in Bendigo in 1998.
Three years later a son of Classic Garry, Chandon, sired the winner of the two-year-old colts and geldings final – Henschke.
Unfortunately for Australian stallions, not one has since sired a Breeders Crown two-year-old title winner.
The only other Australian-bred stallion to produce a Breeders Crown two-year-old champion has been the lightly raced My Handsome Fella, with colt Gozo Heritage saluting in 1999.
If it is to happen again, it will not be before next season with not one Australian-bred stallion having a runner in the Breeders Crown two-year-old semi-finals at Melton on Saturday, November 14.
United States-bred Captaintreacherous has the highest number of runners, with nine from his first Australian crop facing the starter.
This is one more than Bettors Delight US.
The ill-fated Somebeachsomewhere figures next with six.
There are no surprises there with this trip also filling the top three spots on the leading two-year-old sires for the season.
