Gone but Somebeachsomewhere still impacts
If anyone needed a reminder of the magnitude of the premature death of stallion Somebeachsomewhere, the group 1 Vicbred Super Series finals at Melton on Saturday night reinforced it.
The son of the already ill-fated Mach Three sired three winners.
+ 4yo mare Maajida
+ 3yo colt Bondi Lockdown
+ 4yo gelding Honolua Bay
Somebeachsomewhere lost a battle with cancer at the age of 13 years in his native Canada in January in 2018.
He had spent 10 years at stud at Hanover Shoe Farms in the Northern Hemisphere.
Somebeachsomewhere has had 12 crops of foals in Australia, totaling 581.
Of these 426 have gone to the races for 359 winners.
His biggest Australian-bred earner has been Our Waikiki Beach (2012) 1:50.4, 40 wins, $1.058m ahead of now at stud Poster Boy (2014) 1:49.1, 30 wins $803,310.
With her win, Maajida is now Somebeachsomewhere’s third-highest earner in Australia with 22 wins for $628,980.
To keep in the family, Mach Three sired 3yo fillies’ winner Ladies In Red and Captaintreacherous – a son of Somebeachsomewhere – had three minor placegetters.
Somebeachsomewhere was also the premier 2yo and 3yo sire in Victoria for 2021.
