Stawell quinella for father and son Allan and Adam Stephens

Father and son ALLAN and ADAM STEPHENS broke new ground at Stawell on Sunday.

While they have long shared training duties at their Allendale property near Creswick, they combined to produce a quinella for the first time.

Bragging rights for the win went to Adam as trainer of 7yo mare SHEEZAWINGATE, while Allan had to settle for second with SOHO MADONNA in what was a great result for the family in a C1 pace, 2180m.

Sheezawingate, which is also raced by Adam, has won three of 51 starts for almost $20,000 in stakes.

The Stephens saluted on a strong day for Ballarat district stables.

Fellow Allendale trainer BASIL DOOLEY continued his good run with SWEET WISE, which took out a C1 pace, 1785m.

Reinsman DARBY McGUIGAN (pictured) took the reins as the 8yo mare had her third success in latest six visits to the races.

She began the improved run of form in Ballarat – her first win since March last year – and then followed up at Ararat before going to Stawell.

Sweet Wise now boasts 11 career wins in 63 starts for $53,000.For McGuigan it was the second of three wins for him over four days.

Snake Valley trainer-driver DAMIEN BURNS also broke a run of outs with CHIRPY CHUCKLES, which won at big odds in a C2-C3 pace, 2180m.

The 6yo had not saluted since January.
